Reward and Punishment (The story of prophet Noah)

The Story of Prophet Nuh and Divine Guidance

Allah created Adam and Hawwa (Eve) and guided them to worship Him alone. As generations passed, humanity multiplied, but many people strayed from Allah’s commands, turning to idol worship and adopting dishonest and immoral behavior.

To guide people back to the Straight Path, Allah sent prophets from among the people. One of these noble messengers was Prophet Nuh (Noah). Nuh called his people to worship Allah alone and warned them against bowing to idols and false deities. He proclaimed, “O my people! I am a clear warner to you. Worship Allah and obey me, and He will forgive your sins.”

Night and day, Nuh tirelessly invited his people to Allah’s path and sought their repentance. However, they stubbornly covered their ears, wrapped themselves in their garments, and refused to listen. Despite his public proclamations and private conversations, they rejected his message, mocked him, and accused him of lying and madness.

For many years, Nuh persevered in calling people to Allah, but only a few believed. Witnessing his people’s arrogance and stubbornness filled him with sorrow. In his distress, he turned to Allah for help. Allah commanded him to build a ship—a massive undertaking that took considerable time. The people ridiculed him for constructing a vessel far from any sea.

Nuh warned his people of Allah’s impending punishment if they continued to disobey, but they only intensified their mockery. When the ship was finally complete, Allah instructed Nuh to board it with one male and one female of every creature, along with his followers. Once they were safely aboard, torrential rains descended, and floods engulfed the land. The wicked were drowned, and evil was washed away from the earth.

After many days, by Allah’s command, the skies cleared, the rain ceased, and the ship came to rest upon Mount Al-Judi. Nuh and his followers disembarked and settled on the new land, repopulating the earth.

Following Nuh, Allah continued to send messengers to guide humanity back to the Straight Path, with Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) being the final messenger. He received the last divine revelation, the Quran, which provides comprehensive guidance for all aspects of life.

Without Allah’s guidance, people stray into evil. Allah has shown humanity the Straight Path but has granted everyone the free will to choose between righteousness and wrongdoing.

Islam teaches that at the end of time, there will be a Day of Judgment when all people will be held accountable for their deeds. Allah will reward those who believe in Him, perform good actions, and obey His messengers with Paradise. Conversely, those who reject faith, commit evil, and deny His messengers will face punishment. This worldly life is merely a preparation for the eternal life to come.

The Quran teaches that those who submit to Allah’s Will will attain Paradise. The first chapter, Surah Al-Fatihah, is a prayer for guidance to the path leading to Paradise in the Afterlife (Akhirah), one of Islam’s most fundamental beliefs. Disobedience and wickedness will be punished in the next life, while obedience and goodness will be rewarded.

Yet Allah is Merciful and Forgiving; He loves to pardon those who abandon their wicked ways and turn to Him in repentance. He will surely guide them to the Straight Path.

The Quran reveals that Allah has appointed two angels for every person to record their deeds in this world. The truly righteous will dwell in perfect bliss, while the evildoers will face a blazing fire.
