The Angels الملائكة

The Arabic term for “angel” is malak, and its plural form is mala’ika. Allah created the angels, just as He created human beings and all other things. They are created from light. Although we cannot see them, we are certain of their existence because Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) has informed us about them.

Angels are devoted servants of Allah; they constantly obey Him and fulfill His commands without any ability to disobey.

Allah willed for humanity to obey Him, so He sent the Angel Jibreel (عليه السلام) to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to convey what Allah wanted people to do. At Allah’s command, Jibreel (عليه السلام) delivered the Qur’an to the Prophet (ﷺ)—this was his assigned duty.

Moreover, Allah had sent Jibreel (عليه السلام) to many prophets before Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), and their stories are mentioned in the Qur’an. There are numerous angels, each entrusted with specific tasks, and Jibreel (عليه السلام) is one of them.

Each person is accompanied by two angels who stay with them at all times, recording every word spoken and every deed done—both good and bad.

Among the well-known angels are Jibreel, Mikaa’eel, Israafeel, and Maalik.

A Muslim believes in all the angels of Allah.
